Shasta County (Supervisor Glenn Hawes) and Shasta Lake (Mayor Palmer) will put forward Proclamations endorsing the Veterans Day Parade on November 7th as the date to honor our Living Veterans PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE with a parade and Resolutions in Shasta County in 2009.

Theme: "(AMERICA’S WARRIORS PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE)

The Shasta Lake Garden Project representing the BLUE STAR MEMORIAL will start the parade activities with a Blue Star Memorial Dedication at the Shasta Lake Veterans Memorial Grove on Shasta Dam Blvd at 0915 hours.

Venue: City of Shasta Lake, Shasta Dam Blvd. There will be a main reviewing stand with two more announcing stations along the Parade Route for a total of three. Linda Boatwright, Semper Fi II and a whole lot of other things is preparing the SCRIPT for the announcers. This will be taken from the Entry Forms so make it complete and entertaining.

Other events on this very special day:

Pancake Breakfast-0600 to 1000 hours at the Shasta Lake Fire House on Shasta Dam Blvd before the parade. Everyone is invited to this event.

The Blue Star Memorial Dedication – Immediately before the parade. (0915 hours)

BBQ at American Legion Post 720, 4309 Vallecito Shasta Lake after the parade, everyone is welcome to these events.

Please note that the Garden Club’s Blue Star Memorial must be on time so if you plan to attend, please be in place prior to 0910 hours.

Chairmen of Event: Co Chairman, Elmer Ellsworth and Ed Greer (Shasta Lions Chairman, 941-2095, 356-7683) Please contact either man for Parade Applications. A number of Civic Leaders and Veterans have volunteered to Chair the various aspects of this event. Consultants are Leroy Neuenfeld (365-5102) and John Cleckner (243-2100).

Parade Activities and Structure of Parade: Shasta Lake Lions Club will invite Honored Guests for Main Reviewing Stand. The 2009 Parade will start with the Blue Star Memorial Dedication at the Shasta Lake Memorial Grove on or before 0915 hours. Immediately after the dedication concludes a 30 by 60 foot American Flag will move to the east of the reviewing stand on Shasta Dam Blvd, then the American Legion Post 720 Color Guard will move to the Main Reviewing Stand. At 0950 the Parade will move into position and Start at 1000 hours. The Reviewing Stand will start their activities with an introduction welcome by the Master Of Ceremonies. He will introduce Pastor Don Mangrum, Chaplain SFA Chapter 89, who will give the invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag by Linda Hartman, followed by the National Anthem Sung by Linda Bott, this is about the time of the FLYOVER (C-17) will occur 1010 HOURS.

PARADE - (Front to Rear) Honor/Color Guards led by American Legion Post 720 and then the All Native American Color Guard (Hu’ puus Witam), Grand Marshall (------------------------), Honored Veterans, (these are Veterans representing WWII (Jim Church), Korea (Tony Tirri), Vietnam (Mike Wiley), Gulf War (John Cladopulos), GWOT (Chief Rob Burroughs) and POW (Ellis Booth) in "Custom Convertibles" arranged for by Elmer Ellsworth), (There will be a Vehicle with WWII and Korean War Veterans that will be showcased and from Hilltop Estates Retirement Residence, poc on this is Fred Salanti) Veterans Groups, HS Bands, College ROTC (Simpson College), Horses (at rear of parade) (Sheriffs Posse, Rescue Team and other equestrian groups), Boy and Girl Scouts, Asphalt Cowboys, DARE, all Children’s groups, Elks, Shriners, Moose, VA Clinic, Local and State National Guard, Local Law Enforcement Vehicles, Law Enforcement Cadet Corps, Car Clubs, Fire Engines, Local Military Recruiters, Enterprise Junior ROTC Programs, School clubs, Civil Air Patrol Cadets, County Lion’s Clubs, Rotary, Redding VA Medical Clinic, and many more.

Logistics for the Parade: Shasta Lake Law Enforcement will manage parade, approval from CAL TRANS (Shasta Lions), Support by the City of Shasta Lake and the County of Shasta is being handled by the Shasta Lake Lions Club.

Pooper scoopers, Parade managers (e.g. other organizations to assist Lions in setting up Parade), Port-a-potties, Photography, Emergency vehicles and personnel.
