Linda Hartman, Event Chair's Introduction speech

Thank you all for being here tonight. Although
it is amazing that we have had such a wonderful
turnout to support this event, I really am not
 that surprised.

I know that the people of Shasta County,
truly Honor our Veterans and our Men and Women
of the armed forces. I knew if we put out the call
to support our Fund raising Efforts for the
Northern California Veterans home that you
would step up and help.

But I have to admit, that I also had an ulterior
motive..... You see a few months ago I read a
book,  a book that I truly can say, changed my life.
The story told in the pages of this book is a story
of Amazing heroism. A story of not one but
several Men that laid their lives on the line for
each other, and for their Country.  I knew that I
had to do something to help spread this story...
To help to share the stories of our all our
veterans, and the brave men and women that
are continuing to defend our freedoms today.

You see, for although this story is of but one
team of Navy SEALs, it is also a story of so
many of you here tonight, our WWII , Korea,
Vietnam and Gulf War Veterans, I know that
in your minds you too have stories of your
own comrades in Arms that have given their
lives so that others may live in peace and
freedom. All of you have sacrificed, You have
left your homes, your families , you have
suffered horrendous injuries and witnessed
unspeakable  events,  Although it is not nearly
enough, I say THANK YOU!

I know and I appreciate even more after reading
Lone Survivor, that we are  fortunate in this
great country that men and women are still ready
to step up and answer the call to duty. And that
they serve with the ultimate devotion!

We are extremely fortunate tonight to have
the honor of hearing from one of those heroes!

This is a Man, that is humble and soft spoken
in person, Yet he is one of our greatest Warriors!

From the age of 14 he knew that he wanted to
be a SEAL! And he accomplished that great
feat, he became a Combat trained US NAVY SEAL
in January 2002.  He was trained in Weapons,
Demolition and Unarmed  combat. He also served
as Platoon Medic. He served two years in Iraq,
before being deployed  to Afghanistan in the
Spring of 2005.  After re cooperating from the
injuries received that tragic mission in
Afghanistan. He re deployed to Iraq for a
second tour before  retiring in the spring of 2007!

For his Combat Heroism he was awarded the
NAVY CROSS by President George W Bush in 2006.

In his book he Honors the Memories of His
Friends and Teammates who lost their lives
while displaying  incredible bravery in defense
of our country

Please join me in welcoming a true
American Hero  Marcus Luttrell.

" I will never quit.  I persevere and thrive on adversity.
My Nation expects me to be physically harder and
mentally stronger than my enemies.  If knocked
down, I will get back up, every time.  I will draw
on every remaining ounce of strength to protect
my teammates and accomplish our mission.  I am
never out of the fight"  Marcus Luttrell
